Institutions imparting legal education in India often lack a component on plain language drafting as part of their curriculum. Through the SARAL Workshops, we aim to introduce students to the contemporary style of plain language drafting for legal documents, pleadings, opinions or any other form of communication. The SARAL Hackathon is a flagship event on plain language drafting. After a one-day workshop on SARAL drafting, teams of students will compete to simplify a small set of provisions from a suitable law within a limited timeframe or to draft a law based on a hypothetical, utilising SARAL principles.
